Moon positions a bit of overkill?
Posted by Anonymous on October 10, 2002 @ 6:29PM
While I appreciate the calendar very much, I find the postings of the moon phases to be a bit of overkill, merely cluttering the calendar. (Keep in mind that many people view several calendars at once.) I would prefer a version that was more selective in its entries, indicating more significant astronomical events. These might include full moon, new moon, and the quarters. But to include the moon's position every time it comes near another celestial body seems a bit much to this astronomer. It ain't that hard to find in da sky, ya know?

Thanks for posting it!

Moon positions a bit of overkill?
Posted by Anonymous on November 8, 2002 @ 12:02AM
I completely agree. Meteor showers, planets, and full moon and quarter moons are quite sufficient. None of this waning and waxing and position crap. Maybe an "advanced" calendar, and a "novice" calendar. I just want eye candy, not scientific schmancy schmoo.

Moon phases' inclusion is apropos
Posted by Anonymous on October 19, 2003 @ 8:12AM
The creator's title is "Astronomy events" and moon phases are relevant to that purpose. If you were to crack an almanac, you'd see all kinds of minutae relating to the moon's comings and goings, plus a lot of other astro stuff.

This calendar is packed with information, and I encourage the author to keep going in the same direction.

Bravo and than you!

love it

personally, I disagree. As a novice, I get a kick out of this calendar and I am constantly learning something new. I do, however, agree with the person that said it'd be good to have 2 calendars (one with less detail).

Thanks for all your hard work!

Me too
Posted by Anonymous on April 28, 2006 @ 4:59PM
I'd be happy to get some notice on eclipses, showers and other major phenomena. Select items that would, say, get a mention on the news, rather than an astronomer's "pure" calendar.

advance events
Posted by glenn.hanson@sbc on March 13, 2009 @ 4:14PM
I'm sure this has been brought up. Would be nice to have this ap post events in advance rather that by the day only. Most every event is known weeks, even years in advance. I was hoping that synching to ipod would provide me with a full month (at least) of info for travels away from home and computer.
Guess I'll have to sping for an ipod ap. :)

Thanks for posting this astronomy calendar. I especially like the notes on several events, especially meteor showers.

Astronomy Events
Posted by Anonymous on January 30, 2003 @ 3:13PM
A wonderful effort..but, it is overkill and clutters my week so that I generally turn Astronomy off. I've had some problems with my Palm and iSync so that, at times, Astronomy has been triple listed. Ouch!

Moreover, I have moon phases on at least one other calendar already. I agree with others that this calendar should have special astronomical events. A multiple listing for seperate functions like lunar, solar, astral might make some sense.

sub-calendars?
Posted by Anonymous on October 19, 2003 @ 11:49PM
It would be kind of nice if Apple made it possible to have sub-calendars specified within one downloadable calendar -- say, Astronomy: (Moon Phases, Meteor Showers, Solar Flares) or Family: (Mom, Dad) etc etc. wouldn't it? It would be a bit of a pain to download a lot of separate calendars for all different types of astronomical events. And really, if all you need is the moon phases, it's probably more convenient to look in any regular calendar and put them in yourself, there's only four per month. I appreciate the extra detail on this one.

Daily events lost in space
Posted by Anonymous on August 4, 2003 @ 11:36PM
Of the eight calendars I've been using for about two months now, this one has been my favorite. Unfortunately, I did a refresh tonight and now all events are gone. I've deleted the calandar, then re-subscribed, several times, and keep getting nothing, no events showing on any days. I can't figure out what's wrong. Other calendars refresh with no problems. Some help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Much Better !
Posted by Anonymous on August 9, 2003 @ 1:17AM
Works great now. Thanks very much. This is a very good calendar and gives some very interesting sky details as I use it in parrallel with my astronomy program, and sky gazing. I appreciate your effort so please keep up the good work. One question tho; How far into the future do you provide events? September has no events so do you update only for the current month? (ok, two questions)

Alarms
Posted by Anonymous on September 11, 2003 @ 9:08PM
I think this is a really great calender, but I would really like you to change it to have alarms so that I know when the events are happening. I don't have time to go into iCal ever day and look at the event if there were alarms the computer would tell me when that even is happening. So add alarms so I actualy use this cool calender.

astronomy one day off
Posted by Anonymous on January 7, 2004 @ 2:19PM
I think this is terrific! Daily reminders of cosmic events...However, when I load the calendar onto my Timex USB watch, the event listed on the schedule is one day ahead of the current day. Anyone know how to fix this...I'd like to know what's going in the present, and save the future until it's present, if you know what I mean..

usability
Posted by merc on January 20, 2004 @ 4:19AM
The aniversary items & the fact there appears to be entries for every day of the year limit the usabilty. I would love to see the important CURRENT astronomy events only. I still like the progress...

overload
Posted by Anonymous on January 26, 2004 @ 5:53PM
I appreciate the effort, but agree with others that it would be great to have a basic version of this with only lunar quarters and other major events, and a separate detailed calender more or less as is. The calender is great, but I can't really leave it displayed all the time because there's just too much detail.

What happened?

What happened to all the events after March 10, 2004?

I love the calendar, and all the daily facts!
Thanks!

solstices?
Posted by Anonymous on May 6, 2004 @ 1:53PM
I greatly enjoy the entire calendar; and was startled to find (foolish me) that the Solstices and Equinoxes are not included- granted, they are geologicalish events, not stricly astronomical- but somehow, I thought they'd be here, and in fact they are dates I look for every year. Could you add them, please?

Hi,

Has anyone else noticed the Calendar appears to be empty now? No events are listed when I synchronize, not even previous ones.

Posted by doudou on December 17, 2005 @ 12:23AM

Wonderful!!!
Posted by Anonymous on January 26, 2006 @ 3:39PM
This is a great calender. I know everyone is complaining about all the moon stuff but I find conjunctions very intresting and like to know about them so I can photograph them.

One thing I would like is scaled down titles as I load this calender into a Timex data bank watch and long descriptions tend to get trunicated.

More per day
Posted by Anonymous on March 13, 2006 @ 12:35AM
Super stuff...many many thanks.

It might be interesting if each day would have a link to the day's info in "What's Up 2006 - 365 Days of Skywatching" by Tammy Plotner with Jeff Barbour (http://www.universetoday.com/whatsup/)

Again, many thanks
