Seasons

I was looking at iCal yesterday and wondered why the season change wasn't shown. So I searched and found iCalShare and this calendar. Just what I wanted. Perfect. Thanks.

Time of Events
Posted by nstyka on January 23, 2004 @ 12:52AM
Its a great idea and I really like it but as I was just browsing through my calendar I never found it because it is set for the exact time which is usually in the middle of the night and does not show up in a normal week view. Is there any way you could have the event be all day at just mention the time or make the event longer.

Yup

It's possible, yes. You're more than welcome to make such a calendar. :)

It looks like this is for Northern Hemisphere only.
What a shame. Just what I was looking for.

I just submitted a variation of this calendar for you. Keep an eye out for the "Earth Seasons - Southern Hemisphere" calendar.

Transit Time
Posted by Anonymous on September 22, 2004 @ 10:38PM
This Calendar was just what I was looking for to add to my set of calendars. Was just wondering tho how you determine the transit time. You show the Autumnal Equinox for this year starting at 8:30 am. Here it Denver we were told it was at 10:30 am. That would put you 2 time zones West of Denver then? Is there any way to normalize it for any one particular time zone?
Thanks for you good work,
Scott Chiles

Fall started at 8:30 AM Alaska time (where I live). However, iCal should convert the times automatically to your timezone.

Transit Time vs Time Zone
Posted by Anonymous on September 24, 2004 @ 12:26PM
Apparently iCal didn't modify the time, as it still shows as 8:30 am in my Calendar. Is there some sort of event option that would cause it to be synched to the time zone local to the calendar?

seems to be ok
Posted by reh on September 24, 2004 @ 7:19PM
I just had somebody on the east coast try the calendar and they said that while the "show info" box always displayed 8:30, the actual events in the calendar changed time based on the timezone.

Time Discrepancy
Posted by Anonymous on September 24, 2004 @ 10:59PM
I'm not sure what Show Info does. I don't see it as one of my options. But if it seems OK, why am I showing 8:30 am? I wonder if this could be narrowed down to a problem with a particular Calendar application or platform ? I am using Windates v5,0.4 under Windows XP SP2 Home edition. What was your contact on the East Coast using?

Do you know of anyone else using Windates or one of the other Windows applications? Maybe some of the other viewers on this forum could give us some input?

erroneous info

It should be noted that the seasons do not "start" on these dates. That is, summer does not officially start on June 21st or 22nd (whichever). These are astronomical start dates only. There is NO official start of a season. See here for a more complete explanation

Insane subscription settings
Posted by reh on February 27, 2005 @ 1:34PM
It is pointless to refresh this calendar every 15 minutes since I probably won't update it until around the year 2015 or so. I have one subscriber who has downloaded this calendar over 900 times during the month of Feb 2005 alone. A refresh rate of weekly is plenty sufficient.
