4 advice on how to be a better co-parent

You might have seen this situation before – the parents are arguing, while a kid is crying by their side. Well, that might have been just a single case in the time when the family was together. However, what is more, likely is that those people are arguing quite often while their kids are around. And that is something that we are seeing all of the time in public places. That is also something that you as a parent should avoid a lot. However, as you might know, almost every marriage might end with a divorce. That is quite hard to handle when you do not have a kid. Constant argues, as well as the rude things being said. Imagine that you have a kid around. Well, that is the main topic of this article. It is going to try to see what to do when you are divorcing when you have a kid. Also, we are going to take a look at what to do when you, as a co-parent have struggled with your ex-partner, but you do not want your kids to know about all of this. Here is some useful advice on what to do when you are a co-parent.
1. Turn the argues into the conversations
Sometimes that is quite hard to do, as the relationship between you and your ex is quite tight. Well, that is still not a reason to argue in front of your kids. Remember, they would remember most of the things that two of you shout at each other and that would leave a mark on what they become when they grow up. So, to not traumatize your kids, make sure that you have an agreement on the way you talk. Sure, there still might be some hot topics to discuss, but you will either learn how to talk when the children are around or leave the topic for another time. Also, remember, it does not matter how you divorced if you file divorce papers online or unofficially. For your kids, you might still be a pair of parents. Therefore, act accordingly. There might even be no need to act like you are in love with each other. Just try to give them everything that they need.
2. Show each other respect
Yes, that sounds like something quite hard to do. Moreover, in reality, it is hard. However, if you are willing that your kids become perfect humans you will overcome this problem. Sure, you still have some pity on your ex for doing something and some depression after the divorce. But that is not something that the kids require. What they need is some love. Therefore, do not try to somehow make your ex seem worse in the eyes of your kids. Instead, treat your old partner with some respect, as they are also taking care of your kids.
3. Know when to talk on the hot topics
That might also sound like a hard thing. How can you even try to talk about something that important later? Well, if you want your kids to remember you like two people who went their way, but were extremely nice, it is the best to step over yourself. That will be hard to do, but make sure that you and your ex-spouse try your best. Also, “when the kids are not around” does not mean that they just cannot see you. It means that they are at school or in another house, as you surely do not want them to even hear you, right?
4. Choose your next spouse wisely
If parenting is extremely important for you, then make sure that you know who you are dating. Let that person know that you are a co-parent and that the kid matters for you. If their reaction is negative and your kid is the priority, you know what to do. Yet, if they are being helpful and, at least, try to be OK with your ex, this is probably a nice fit. Also, do not forget to tell your new loved one that your kids are your priority, and that you are not going to have any conversations on the topic of who rules.
